Hike and bike in Mother Nature's playground. Sample our lush coastal wilderness. The 11 km long Aspotogan Trail starts where the St Margaret's Bay Trail stops and follows the abandoned rail line between Hubbards and East River, cutting across the top of the Aspotogan Peninsula. Bicyclists will enjoy its gravel surface and families will find this an easy walk because it is nearly level throughout. Birders should also enjoy this walk.
Cycling around the 50 km Aspotogan loop from Hubbards to East River is an awesome experience. You will find quiet roads with sandy beaches, little fishing villages and the smell of seaside roses and lupines around every corner. The loop is challenging with some good hills and often a stiff wind. It can be ridden from either direction. Things can get a little busy in the summer months and the road is narrow with limited shoulder in places so please bike with care.
Each year on Father's Day the whole community comes out to celebrate Dads and bike the Aspotogan loop.
If you didn't bring a bike, no problem, Freewheeling Adventures, located in The Lodge, (yes, this is the name of a village) on the Aspotogan Peninsula, has bikes you can rent. They also run organized bike trips.
